Ginny Hurley

  1957 - 2015

Ginny joined the Clerk’s Office of the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts in 1976 as a Deputy Clerk.  Through the years her responsibilities grew and she touched the lives of virtually every member of the Court family – from the judges, courtroom and chambers personnel, administrative staff, and attorneys, to student interns and everyone in between.  She helped develop all the electronic filing systems over the years, and made sure that everyone knew how to use them.  Since 2003 Ginny has been responsible for organizing all of the educational programs at the Court for the bench, bar and public.  Her recent title of “Outreach Coordinator” reflected the fact that she was the face of the court, welcoming all who came to take part in the judicial system, including dignitaries from around the world, international and national press, and students from down the street, all with grace and a smile.  Ginny coordinated the court’s summer programs for high school and college students – the Lindsay and Nelson Fellowship programs -- helping nurture and train the next generation to appreciate and participate in the legal progress.

Ginny was a good friend, teacher and mentor.  She was a quick wit, and had the ability to make people laugh.  As described by the Court, she was the calm in every storm, and the Court family is much richer for having had the joy of working with her for all these years.  But it is also much poorer for her loss.
