September 22: On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, the Federal Bar Association will hold a panel discussion honoring women that serve on the Federal Bench.

August 2015

August 31: The Federal District Court Criminal Justice Act Board will accept applications for approximately (30) positions on the present District Court panel list for appointment to indigent cases in Boston.

August 27: Effective August 31, 2015 the following courtroom changes will take place:

Proceedings before Judge George A. O'Toole will be held in Courtroom 22;

Proceedings before Judge Indira Talwani will be held in Courtroom 9; and,

Proceedings before Judge Allison D. Burroughs will be held in Courtroom 17.

Also, The Court welcomes back Senior Judge Edward F. Harrington who will be conducting mediations in Courtroom 20.

July 2015

July 24: Attached please find a press release issued by the Clerk of Court regarding the appointment of Jessica Hedges, Esq. as the Chair of the Criminal Justice Act Board.

July 23: The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts is considering and is publishing for comment a modification of Local Rule 203 Bankruptcy Appeals. These rules are numbered to correspond to the pertinent section of the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. All rules included in this notice are new and therefore, a redline version is not available.

Copies of the proposed rules are attached to this notice and are available for inspection in the Offices of the Clerk: in Suite 2300 of the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Way, Boston, Massachusetts; on the 1st floor of the United States Courthouse, 300 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts; and on the 5th floor of the Harold D. February 2015

February 2: Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Edward J. Markey have re-convened the Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Judicial Nominations, chaired by former District Judge Nancy Gertner, to consider applications for a federal judicial vacancy created by Judge Douglas P. Woodlock's decision to take senior status as of June 1, 2015. Candidates interested in applying for this position must submit their applications to the Advisory Committee by February 23, 2015.

January 2015

January 13: Judge Douglas P. Woodlock of the United States District Court of the District of Massachusetts has advised President Obama he will become a Senior Judge on June 1, 2015. The full press release may be found on the court's website at

The Judges of this Court have amended Local Rule 203, Bankruptcy Appeals, to align the Rule numbers to the amendments found in the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, which took effect on December 1, 2014. This amendment may be found on the courts website at
